What it does
Two directions, and they are separate switches. Outward: every appointment the receptionist books is sent as a calendar invite and as a one-click Add to Google Calendar link, so the visit appears in the calendar you already keep on your phone rather than in a screen you have to remember to open. You can also subscribe Google to a private PhonePick feed that carries all of them at once.
Inward: you paste your calendar's own private iCal address into PhonePick, and the diary treats anything already on it as closed. A dentist appointment you put in yourself at two o'clock is a two o'clock the receptionist will not offer, without you telling PhonePick anything about it.

Being straight with you
It is not a two-way sync of everything. PhonePick reads your calendar for busy times and writes its own bookings; it does not edit, move or delete events you created, and it never reads the contents of your private events — only that the time is taken. Google refreshes a subscribed feed on its own schedule, which can be slow, so the invite and the add-link are the fast paths and the feed is the backstop.

Bookings arrive as ordinary calendar invites, and a shared iCloud calendar tells PhonePick when you are busy.
